Three foreigners were arrested by agents of the Flying Squad of Catania who, on the orders of the Etna District Attorney’s Office, carried out precautionary measures in prison issued by the investigating judge for robbery with aggravated personal injury, as well as possession of instruments capable of offending.
The facts date back to January 2023 in the San Berillo neighborhood and refer to a violent robbery suffered by another foreign citizen targeted by the trio who ended up in handcuffs only because they had dared to defend a compatriot who had just been beaten without any apparent reason.
The victim, when he was warned that one of his disabled compatriots was being subjected to a gratuitous attack by a group of young foreigners for the umpteenth time, quickly rushed between Via Carro and Via Delle Finanze to provide him with assistance. , finding him already with a bleeding wound on his head.
Only after requesting the intervention of an ambulance to transport his friend to hospital, the victim, still not far from the location, ran into the violent trio again.
At that point, while he was trying to explain his displeasure at the attack committed against his compatriot, he was quickly surrounded and then hit with stinging spray in the eyes.
Having fallen to the ground, the attackers, all armed with knives, robbed him of the pouch containing the sum of around 300 Euros and then, when he tried to defend himself, they hit him with several blows in different parts of the body, until he lost knowledge.
The man was then taken under code red to a city hospital and subsequently discharged with a prognosis of thirty days.
The investigations
The investigative insights conducted by the men of the Flying Squad, Foreign Crime and Prostitution Sectionand the serious circumstantial framework collected under the coordination of the local Prosecutor’s Office, led in a short time to the identification of the three foreigners suspected of the heinous crime, allowing the Catania investigating judge to issue the measure of precautionary custody in prison for all three suspects .
A first suspect was found in Catania although homeless and locked up in the “Piazza Lanza” prison at the disposal of the proceeding Judicial Authority, while, in the same hours, a second was discovered to have already been detained at the Ucciardone in Palermo for other cause and he was notified of the prison sentence.
Finally, the third author, who in the meantime had moved away from the national territory, was captured when he returned to Italy in recent days, thanks to the collaboration of the Border Police Office at the Malpensa airport and subsequently taken to the Busto prison Arsizio.
