Latina, “Big and small rights to the goal”: the award ceremony for the winning short films

A competition reserved for the city’s schools in order to promote awareness among students of the UN Convention approved by the United Nations General Assembly

Latina, 6 June 2024 – Yesterday morning at the Ponchielli theater in Latina the awards ceremony took place for the winning short films of the “Big and small rights to the goal” competition, organized by the municipal departments of Public Education and Youth Policies, in collaboration with the Provincial Committee For Unicef, on the occasion of the World Day of the Rights of Children and Adolescents. A competition reserved for the city’s schools in order to promote among students the knowledge of the UN Convention approved by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989 and ratified by Italy on 27 May 1991.

“It was a wonderful event – declared the councilor for public education Francesca Tesone – also thanks to the involvement of the institute ‘Alessandro Volta‘ who organized a concert, performed by the students of the musical branch, to open the event, while at the end the students of the same school performed in a theater show. This initiative wanted to represent not only the recognition of merit, but also the inclusive capacity of the city’s educational institution. I thank the examining commission composed of Michela Verga of Unicef, Rita Balestra and Aldo Casale of the Latina Film Commission and the municipal manager Lucia Giovangrossi. The winners in the two competition classes were the lower secondary school of the Da Vinci-Rodari institute with ‘You have the right to play’, and the lower secondary school of the Vittorio Veneto-Salvemini institute with ‘The right of playing'”.

“From the beginning of the journey that led us to yesterday’s ceremony – stated the councilor for youth policies Andrea Chiarato – I shared both the objective of this competition which aims to promote knowledge, the deepening and growth of awareness of the rights enshrined in the Convention, and the fact that students had the opportunity to express themselves through the creation of a short film or video clip on the topic. I want to thank all the students and professors who participated in this wonderful initiative. We are also proud that the video of the winners is brought to the attention of the national Unicef because the kids worked hard to achieve this goal. Through this initiative, students had the opportunity to reflect on rights issue and how lucky they are to go to school, always remembering those who unfortunately cannot go to school and those who are unfortunately denied childhood and education”.
