A priceless treasure made of colossal trees, silent witnesses of centuries of history. A journey among the Giants of Sila is an experience to do at least once in a lifetime, an immersion in an uncontaminated world: it’s like entering a natural temple, a place of peace and profound harmony. Symbols of strength, resistance and resilience, they have resisted storms, droughts and fires, a true warning to man, an example of how nature can be powerful and fragile at the same time.
With the arrival of spring the Sila plateau transforms into a riot of colors and scents: the gentle reliefs are covered in green as far as the eye can see, dotted with blooms that give the landscape a fairytale appearance: from the yellow of the broom and from St. John’s Wort to pink mallow and dog rose, a wide spectrum of shades is offered to the viewer. It’s the perfect place for a day of trekking! The Giants of Sila together with the FAI (info and tickets on www.fondoambiente.it) meet on Sunday 16 June at 10.00: 6 kilometers to be covered in 4 hours along an itinerary of medium difficulty to discover many of the typical floral species of the Silane environment. Scientific data, anecdotes and curiosities will then be an opportunity to explore the natural heritage of the plateau both in its botanical and cultural and ethnobotanical components. The trek will begin with a visit to the Sila Giants Reserve and will be led by Tommaso Talerico, AIGAE guide, Sila National Park guide and naturalist photographer.
