Appointment dedicated to the new novel by Jon Coda (born Giovanni Dacò, journalist, writer and screenwriter from Varese) at Caffè Lucioni between socio-cultural reflections, music and art

CASTIGLIONE OLONA – The incognito Varese of about twenty years ago, when not only alcohol but also art and culture was served in the centre: it is talked about in Return to Dionysusthe new novel by Jon Coda (nom de plume by Giovanni Dacò, journalist, writer and screenwriter from Varese), published by 4 Punte Edizioni (https://www.4punte.it/).

The book is inspired by that golden age that took place in via Cavallotti at the turn of the millennium, when the center of Varese was animated by a series of far-sighted managers of bars, shops and cultural associations. A union that led to the proliferation of cultural and artistic initiatives of great importance, to the point that the street was renamed “La Piccola Brera di Varese” by The Corriere della Sera.

Released in April 2024, the novel was presented as a preview in Val D’Aosta, where the former owner of a historic restaurant in Varese now works, and its debut in the Province of Varese is scheduled for 7 June 2024 in Castiglione Olona, in equally historic Caffè Lucioni Carluccio, already the scene of numerous cultural initiatives thanks to the owner Elena Lucioni and his collaborator Isabella Empirio.

The author will speak at Lucioni alongside other artists from Varese: the guitarist Luca Gambacortathe double bass player Carlo Rizzithe painter Daniela Landini and the factotum reader Paolo Negri, assisted by the organizer Cristina Bracci. We will talk about the book but not only: the presentation is in fact based on the art+art concept and combines the reading and commentary of some chapters of the novel with original live performances of painting, sculpture, music, theater and short literary excursus, designed to interpret some of the main themes of the novel.

Ritorno al Dioniso tackles very current issues – for example inclusiveness, the dehumanisation of society, climate change – with a light style and an adequate dose of irony, finally paying great attention to the concept of change and the social role that art can and should have in modern society.
