CREMONA – The Lombardy Region has allocated 30 million euros for the demolition, reclamation and regeneration of the areas currently occupied by the block of the Maggiore hospital. The council’s approval of the measure proposed by the Welfare councilor Guido Bertolaso represents an important step forward in the path that will lead to the creation of the new hospital, designed by the team Mario Cucinella Architects: a “model for healthcare architecture”, according to the designer himself, with an estimated cost of 285 million euros. According to the timetable, the works will start at the beginning of 2025 and will last until 2030.
Bertolaso, commenting on the 1.14 billion resolution which also includes the financing addressed to the Asst of Cremona, specifies: «We allocate the national funds already foreseen in relation to article 20, realigning and specifying the interventions in order to accelerate the implementation process and therefore timely and prompt implementation. These are strategic projects with which we intend to proceed in the next three years in the Lombardy region.”
In the same council meeting, the green light was given to the allocation of regional resources amounting to 128.2 million in favor of the Lombardy Ats and Assts for equipment and adjustments and environmental remediation. At the Asst of Cremona, directed by Ezio Belleri, 1.27 million have been allocated for maintenance of systems, structures and equipment in the current year. Also in the chapter dedicated to maintenance, the Region has allocated 100 thousand euros to the Po Valley ATS. «We are allocating a first tranche of regional resources – underlined Bertolaso – for low and medium technology equipment. Acquisitions and renewals with Pnrr funds are underway on large equipment, but all the equipment used by healthcare workers must be efficient and modern to allow them to work optimally. Even the device for performing the ECG or the portable ultrasound are fundamental parts of the equipment necessary for the healthcare activity that is carried out every day in our facilities”.
