Raffaele Mazza is the cyclist hit and killed by a truck in a tragic road accident that occurred this morning on the Gela-Scoglitti. In the clash, which occurred around midday, Raffaele Mazza died instantly. An air ambulance and two ambulances were sent from the 118 call center in Caltanissetta, but it was all in vain.

Mazza, a former banker, together with a group of enthusiasts and amateur cyclists, all from Mazzarrone, was traveling along the coastal road coming from Gela. A truck traveling in the opposite direction hit them. Condolences were unanimous in Mazzarrone, where the man – who had always been passionate about cycling and who used to take long walks with other enthusiasts – was well known and respected. The mayor, Giovanni Spata, went to the scene of the accident. “He was a good person and a dear friend – said the mayor – I have always known him. It is a day of great pain for Mazzarrone, for the many who knew him and loved him.”
Meanwhile the Parishes of Mazzarrone announce: “after receiving the tragic news of the road accident, in which dear brother Raffaele Mazza lost his life, the Inter-parish Pastoral Council decided to postpone the Feast of the Sacred Heart to a later date. We all embrace the Mazza families with great affection, praying to the Lord of life to be their support and comfort in this moment of great suffering.” The parish priest Don Lucio Gatto made the note.
