Terni, orthognathic surgery: doctors and experts meeting on 8 June

At the Hotel Garden from 8am to 6pm. Focus on the divergent opinions existing between surgeons and orthodontists in the field of orthognathic surgery

TERNI, 4 June 2024 – “Orthognathic surgery. Comparing opinions” is the title of the conference which will take place on 8 June from 8am to 6pm at the Hotel Garden in Terni. With the aim of examining the divergent opinions existing between surgeons and orthodontists on the field of orthognathic surgery.

The points of view of both parties will be analyzed, with particular attention to the differences in identification of surgical indications, treatment planning and post-operative expectations. Also examined are the challenges and opportunities that emerge from interdisciplinary collaboration, in order to promote better understanding. As stated by Dr. Fabrizio Spallaccia, Director of the Complex Maxillofacial Surgery Structure of the Terni Hospital: “Thanks to the use of CAD/CAM technologies we are moving towards patient-friendly surgery. While previously we used standard plates (modelled on the patient), now, with the help of technological instruments, we are able to build pre-formed plates which allow us greater precision”.

What is orthographic surgery – It concerns maxillomandibular malformations, for example problems related to chewing, the articulation of words, resulting from the shape of the chin being either too prominent or too retracted.
How to treat it – The treatment of these dentofacial malocclusions involves a synergy between the maxillofacial surgeon and the orthodontist who treats the dental apparatus. Collaboration, sharing of objectives and the same therapeutic approach are essential for optimizing the clinical results of patients undergoing orthognathic surgery.
