Two scholarships in memory of the Bisceglie professor Luisa Rana, a music teacher who passed away prematurely in 2021, were awarded on Saturday 1 June 2024 at the Niccolò Piccinni Conservatory in Bari.

Giulia Moraca, harpist, and Nicola Pio Nasca, pianist, received a contribution from the San Nicola di Bari Lions Club which wanted to establish a “Training” award for talented young students of the Conservatory.

“Professor Luisa Rana, who was an excellent pianist and musician, as well as choir director, dedicated much of her activity to young students and, in particular, less fortunate people, promoting their social inclusion through music”, said Maestro Corrado Roselli, director of the Conservatory.

The president of the Lions Club, Sante Attolini, underlined that these scholarships represent “an important recognition for students who intend to pursue a career in music. Even more significant is the choice to award one of the two scholarships to the blind student Nicola Pio Nasca, to demonstrate the importance of diversity and inclusion in the musical field towards the promotion of equality of opportunities”.

The awards ceremony took place during the concert held at the Nino Rota Auditorium as part of the concert review dedicated to the excellence of the Nicolò Piccinni Conservatory. In particular, Giulia Moraca performed the pieces by Giovanni Caramiello taken from “Rimembranze dell’opera”: Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi, op. 17, and Little entertainment on the Palummella, op. 13. Nicola Pio Nasca, however, performed the pieces of Partita in C minor Johann Sebastian Bach and Suite española n. 1, op. 47, and Aragón (Fantasy) by Isaac Albeniz.

Present, among others, were Antonio Giampietro, Disability Guarantor for the Puglia Region, Franco Giangualano, President of UICI BAT, Nicla Sciangalepore, inclusion representative of the Nicolò Piccinni Conservatory, Anna Maria Sallustio, former piano teacher at the same Conservatory.
