A delegation of officials and doctors from the United States Embassy today carried out an inspection of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi. This visit is part of the preparation activities for the G7 which will be held from 13 to 15 June in Borgo Egnazia, along the coast of Fasano, and which will see the participation of US President Joe Biden. The delegation visited various departments of the hospital, including the emergency room, intensive care and the operating block.

Security Measures for the G7

In view of the official dinner on June 13th at the Castello Svevo in Brindisi, the Municipality has issued, through an ordinance, a series of parking bans until June 8th to allow the inspection of the underground services. The reclamation of the manholes in the streets adjacent to the Svevo Castle will be carried out by the bomb squad. Furthermore, for the first day of the G7, Aeroporti di Puglia has communicated the temporary ban on the airspace for commercial flights at Brindisi airport from 7.00 pm to 11.00 pm on 13 June 2024. Salento airport it will therefore be closed in this time interval.

Traffic Ordinances and Provisions

The municipal administration has issued an ordinance regarding traffic which also concerns the roads adjacent to the airport. In particular, from 07:00 on 11 June 2024 until 13:00 on 16 June 2024, the ban on transit and parking will be in force in the streets leading to the church of Santa Maria del Casale.

Inspection on the ship “Aurelia” for accommodation needs

A delegation from the SAP (Autonomous Police Union), composed of representatives of the Brindisi Secretariat and the Mobile Departments, carried out an inspection on the “Aurelia” ship at the port of Naples. The ship was identified to meet the accommodation needs of the staff who will be aggregated in Brindisi for the G7. However, some critical issues have emerged regarding the cabin spaces and toilets, which are unsuitable for prolonged stays.

Meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security

The Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi will chair a meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security at Palazzo Montenegro tomorrow, June 4th at 4:00 pm. The meeting will be attended by the territorial authorities, the Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani, the Chief of Cabinet of the Minister Maria Teresa Ancheviva, the Head of Ceremonial of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Francesco Piazza, the Head of the Delegation for the Italian Presidency of the G7 Nicola Lener , the Extraordinary Commissioner Fulvio Maria Soccodato, the President of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano, the Central Chief of the Interforce Operational Command Francesco Marras, as well as the Prefects and Police Commissioners of Bari and Taranto.

The organization of the G7 involves an intensification of inspections and security measures to ensure the safe conduct of the events. The Perrino hospital in Brindisi, the streets surrounding the Castello Svevo and the Salento airport are at the center of these activities.
