Monsignor Panighetti greets Varese: the new Provost is arriving

VARESE – A significant change is coming to the city of Varese with the announcement of the new provost. Monsignor Franco Gallivanone, episcopal vicar, announced the news at the end of the Corpus Domini celebrations, held on Sunday 2 June in the Basilica of San Vittore. In September, Don Gabriele Gioia will replace Monsignor Luigi Panighetti.

Monsignor Luigi Panighetti, provost of Varese since September 2015, is destined for a new position in Milan after nine years of service in the “garden city”. Taking his place will be Don Gabriele Gioia, currently rector of the Volta Archiepiscopal College in Lecco. Born in 1961, Don Gioia was parish priest of San Pietro and head of the San Maurizio Pastoral Community of Cassano Magnago, where in 2018 he was named meritorious citizen. In a letter of greeting to the students, parents, teachers and staff of the college, Don Gioia expressed his commitment to the new pastoral role that the Archbishop has entrusted to him.

Other changes

It is not only the provost’s office of Varese that has seen a change. At the Blessed Don Gnocchi Pastoral Community, Don Luigi Pisoni, born in 1971, will take on the role of manager and parish priest of the five parishes, after having served since 2014 in Gallarate in the parishes of Crenna and Moriggia. Don Pisoni will replace Don Marco Casale, who will be sent to Gavirate.

In the meantime, Don Giuseppe Pellegatta, currently in the same community, will become parish priest in Cavaria con Premezzo and Oggiona Santo Stefano. Don Carlo Garavaglia will leave the Beato Marzorati Pastoral Community to go to the Sacro Monte of Varese. His place will be taken by Don Maurizio Cantù, born in 1960.
