The celebration took place in Piazza Cavalli in Piacenza of the 78th anniversary of Republic Dayin memory of the referendum with which Italy chose the Republic over the monarchy.
THE CEREMONY ON 2 JUNE IN PIACENZA
The ceremony opened with the usual review of the armed units, the raising of the flag to the tune of the national anthem and the speech of the President of the Republic, read by the prefect Paolo Ponta in front of the authorities and many citizens crowded along the perimeter of the square.
However, it was a different celebration from the previous ones, as it was characterized by musical notes. In fact, the Cinque Quarti orchestra played under Palazzo Gotico, born in 2022 from the “From the class to the orchestra” project of the fourth circle of Piacenza with the support of the Piacenza and Vigevano Foundation, which later became a network project.
CHILDREN PROTAGONISTS
The children were the real protagonists. Reading reflections based on the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Convention on the Rights of Children and Adolescents, they introduced the musical formation, composed of the Cinque Quarti Abreu youth orchestra and the Cinque Quarti Abbado children’s orchestra, which played compositions by Schumann, Pleyel, Tchaikovski and Elgar.
An adequate closure to the words pronounced shortly before in the square by the prefect Ponta, who reading the message of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella defined 2 June 1946 as the day in which “the choice of the Italian people for the Republic wrote a decisive page of democracy, placing the foundations for a renewed social pact, focusing on the importance of remembering. A civic duty and a precious opportunity, an exercise specific to each citizen and above all for those who, exercising public functions, find in the constitutional principles of freedom, equality and solidarity a compass of sure orientation in the face of the complex challenges of the present”.
