Tragedy around 6pm today at the intersection of via Vandalino and corso Montello in Collegno, where an elderly woman was hit and killed while crossing the road with her husband. Her name was Venerina Pacchiella and she had celebrated her 88th birthday just a few days ago.
The reconstruction of the accident is entrusted to the municipal police of Collegno, who intervened together with two ambulances, carabinieri and firefighters: the two elderly people live nearby, in Borgata Paradiso, and were crossing the road at the time. Just as a Dacia Duster arrived, driven by a 74-year-old who also lives in the same area: he didn’t have time to stop and hit the 88-year-old, who was thrown onto the asphalt and died practically instantly at the height of the pedestrian crossing. Help from passers-by and paramedics who arrived shortly after was useless: they tried to resuscitate the old woman but there was nothing that could be done for her.
Eventually one of the Green Cross ambulances picked up the husband of the deceased elderly woman, slightly injured and in shock after seeing the lady die before his eyes. He was then transported to the Martini hospital in Turin. Meanwhile, the driver of the Dacia was subjected to an alcohol test.
