Peaches. Controversy over rising costs: this is how Grim puts families to the test

A bitter irony that of Antonio Monaco, former mayor of Capracotta and current resident of Pesche, who after receiving the last water bill, relating to the second half of 2022, reported on social media – as a private citizen – the inherent problem to the dizzying increases in the costs of the water service, which is causing an uproar in various Molise communities.
The former mayor of Capracotta, now resident in Pesche, underlined the discrepancy between consumption and costs, for a bill which according to him went from 299 euros to 817 euros, after the bodies joined the integrated water system, and then to Grim. Hence the ironic statement – but not so much – which reflects the thoughts of many citizens of Molise: “We’ll go and get our next water supply at petrol stations, given how the cost of water has risen.”
Monaco brought to attention his personal “surprise” for a Grim water bill which increased from a total amount of 299 to 817 euros for an estimated annual consumption of 328 cubic meters of water, used by two families. «Unexpected surprise due to the very strong increase there was, not in consumption but in costs. In fact, with the same consumption, this bill has almost tripled, an increase that certainly cannot be tolerated by families. I’m not just talking about mine, but about all the families of Pesche and other municipalities who feel this problem which is quite widespread” – commented Monaco.
The high sums refer, among other things, to the second half of 2022, which according to the former mayor of Capracotta makes any possible operation to verify their accuracy complex. «An estimate for the second half of 2022 seems really out of place given that we are in 2024, which does not give me the opportunity to request a correction. Or rather, I contacted Grim but I was told that a presumed calculation would have to be made by doing the reading today, things on which I prefer not to comment » – he added.
Hence the doubts of the citizen of Pesche on the effectiveness of joining the integrated water system, as well as on tariff revisions. «I don’t know if the administrations have reviewed the new tariffs that would have emerged with membership of the Grim. I think not, because many Municipalities have opted to maintain direct management of the water service. Joining the Grim – claims Antonio Monaco – had to take place while respecting the principles of economy. But it is not clear whether this economy was in favor of the citizens or the administrations. There is something that doesn’t add up and that should be reviewed.”
These are problems that are being discussed a lot and more widely in recent days – not only in relation to tariffs – after the well-known news events in which Grim and Molise Acque were the protagonists. In fact, a hearing recently took place in the Region between the mayor of Frosolone, Felice Ianiro, and the president of the Regional Council Quintino Pallante, the secretary Fabio Cofelice, the group leaders and regional councilors Roberto Di Pardo, Roberto Gravina, Micaela Fanelli, Massimo Romano and Alessandra Salvatore, the president of Molise Acque Stefano Sabatini and the members of the Board of Directors and the councilor Michele Marone.
President Pallante has made a commitment to bring the matter to the Chamber to find the appropriate operational and regulatory solutions on the issues raised.
