A mission that has guided them for 30 years: supporting cancer patients by giving them support, comfort and hope. A dream born from the will of Anna Mancuso and started in 1994 in a small room of the then USSL of Monza and has now become a point of reference for the prevention of breast cancer with 28 locations throughout Italy, of which 15 in Lombardy and over 300 volunteers in the field.

“Salute Donna” blows out 30 candles this year and yesterday, Friday 31 May, a dedicated ceremony was held in the Palazzo Lombardia headquarters.

In our region the culture of prevention is strong and consolidated thanks above all to third sector entities such as “Women’s Health” which, for 30 years, has been carrying out its “mission” with passion, energy, competence and a lot of work, walking on the legs of over 300 volunteers who every day fight their battle against the disease with the “weapons” of determination, courage and empathy – underlined the President of the Lombardy Regional Council, Federico Romani, during the ceremony

The President added that this event does not just represent a milestone but above all the beginning of a new path to strengthen prevention in a Region that is not afraid to innovate and stay ahead of the times.

A path that today all together – institutions, hospitals and associations – we have the duty to continue to follow to raise awareness among citizens.

In addition to President of the Lombardy Region and ai Regional councilorsrepresentatives of the Governmentfrom the House of Representativesof the Senate of the Republic and the leaders ofNational Cancer Institute of Milan.

During the ceremony, recognition plaques were awarded to the Italian sections of “Women’s Health”: Central Milan, Milan Sacco, Assago, The Eagle, Bergamo, Carate – Albiate and Varedo, Garbagnate, Magenta, Monza, Pavia and Cosenza, Seveso, Barlassina, Vimercate, Forlì, Rome and Catanzaro, Naples and Aversa, Palermo and Syracuse, Cagliari and Reggio Calabria.

I’m almost 56 thousand the new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in Italy every year. It is the most common neoplasm among women. Unfortunately more and more women are getting sickbut at the same time the number of women who recover is also growing. With them screening for early diagnosis, in fact, mortality from breast cancer between 2007 and 2019 decreased by 6% and survival five years after diagnosis reached 88% (Source: “Cancer numbers in Italy 2023” – Aiom-Airtum).
