Mirafiori could start again with the introduction of a hybrid version of the 500 to be produced together with the electric version, using the same platform modified to house the combustion engine. This would be the possible announcement that the CEO of Stellantis, Carlos Tavares, could make during the meeting with the metalworkers’ unions which will be held this afternoon, in Turin, at 5 pm.

The decision would be linked to the desire to increase production at Mirafiori to reach around 200 thousand 500 electric and hybrid vehicles, and contribute to the objective of one million vehicles to be produced in Italy. Objective being discussed as part of the automotive roundtable organized by Mimit with the main trade associations, local authorities and trade unions. In this regard, the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, said on Saturday at the Trento Festival of Economics that the discussion will be concluded in a few days. “I am convinced that we are at the final stages of the table and that it is possible to implement this development plan for Stellantis in Italy, which aims at one million vehicles in the shortest possible time, with new electric but also hybrid models in Mirafiori, Melfi, Pomigliano and Cassino”.

“It’s great that this meeting with the CEO is coming but it can’t be an informational meeting, we need precise answers and to plan work for the future”. Thus the leader of the CGIL, Maurizio Landini, regarding the summons by Tavares. On Stellantis, Landini explained, “our positions are very precise: we need to be clearly told to bring models here, there is a lack of production capacity. For each plant there is a need to indicate what the mission is, what the products are, what the investments are. But this thing, in addition to being discussed with the company – underlined Landini – must become a discussion that must involve the government, must involve the Presidency of the Council, there must be a real negotiation in which these commitments are made in broad daylight”.

In Mirafiori, where the electric Maserati GranCabrio and Granturismo Folgore are also produced, overall production in 2023 was around 85 thousand units, 93% of which for export. The over 2000 employees of the body shops are on redundancy and solidarity payments, with a total production stoppage in the month of May. The activity will resume on June 3rd. Production of the current 500 thermal was instead assigned to the Tychy site in Poland but ended this year due to approval problems linked to the new EU regulations which will come into force in July.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited new government incentives are starting and Stellantis is offering advantages for its customers with the “We give value to Made in Italy” initiative aimed at vehicles of the Alfa Romeo, FIAT and Jeep brands, produced in Italian plants and which can benefit from the discounts. , confirming the crucial role of the country within the company. A double action, the Government one and that of Stellantis, which will bring positive effects not only for Italian customers, but also for the production activities themselves in the national factories.
