PESCARA. The social balance sheet of the Caritas Onlus Foundation, an instrumental body of the diocesan Caritas, was presented: it is the snapshot of one year of activity, 2023. 81,694 meals were served by the canteens of Pescara and Montesilvano, 243 people welcomed in the dormitory of the Cittadella dell’Accoglienza, 456 families followed by the Solidarity Emporiums in the metropolitan area: these are some data from the 2023 social budget of the Caritas foundation of the Archdiocese of Pescara-Penne. This year’s social budget is entitled “Returning poverty”.

«Numbers with a worrying increase compared to the previous year – explains Corrado De Dominicis, director of the Caritas Onlus foundation – an increase that well illustrates the title we have chosen, “Returning poverty”, because this is precisely what is happening: who for a he saw a glimmer of light and had to quickly retrace his steps, asking us again for help and accompaniment to free himself once again from a condition of strong economic and social fragility”.

The social balance sheet of the Caritas Onlus foundation, an instrumental body of the diocesan Caritas, is the snapshot of a year of activity, 2023, taken through sign works, services, projects and pastoral animation, with particular attention to various themes that make up our social fabric . «Even in the year in question – continues De Dominicis – we managed to implement actions and resources, beyond the low threshold services, to deal with all those situations of need that we encountered, from the confirmation and strengthening of various services for the fight against child educational poverty, the reception of migrants and refugees, passing through new project experiences relating to the fight against housing poverty and the promotion of the socio-work inclusion of the most vulnerable”.

In addition to actions to combat and fight poverty, the Caritas Foundation is also present in the area with community animation and social awareness activities: «I would like to thank – concludes the director of the Foundation – all those young people who through the imagination of Charity have animated the territory with educational, cultural and training activities, as demonstrated by the work of the Young Caritas group. Furthermore, my heartfelt thanks go to all the volunteers of the diocesan and parish Caritas, more than 400 people, who spend themselves every day for the least fortunate, demonstrating, if ever there was still a need, that they are the true driving force of Solidarity”.
