Foggia a five-a-side football tournament for “Refugee Day”

The fourth edition of the “Soccer Tournament for Integration – Francesco Ginese” promoted on the occasion of “World Refugee Day” is underway. It is a five-a-side football tournament with the presence of nine teams to encourage a moment of socialization and meeting between the migrant community and the Italian one, with the aim of creating an opportunity for exchange, sharing and knowledge.

THE TOURNAMENT. The kick-off will take place on Wednesday 29 May 2024, starting from 6.30 pm on the pitches of the Zeligh Sport Center (Via Lucera). Maria Aida Episcopo, mayor of Foggia, and Domenico Di Molfetta, municipal councilor for Sport, will be present for the initial greetings and kick-off. Taking to the field will be the teams made up of: Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia, Mondo Nuovo, Oronero, Casa di Accoglienza di Gesù e Maria, Educational Community of Orsara and SAI beneficiaries, Rete Oltre, San Giovanni di Dio, Casa Sankara, Associazione Gina , Orsarosa. After the first day of the calendar, the tournament will continue on 5, 13, 17 and 18 June, with the finals to award the podium of this edition.

THE DAY. On 20 June, therefore, “World Refugee Day” is celebrated, an annual event promoted by the United Nations General Assembly to raise public awareness of the condition of refugees, asylum seekers and displaced persons in the world, forced to flee from wars and persecution, leaving their loved ones, their home and everything that once was their life to seek salvation in another country. On this occasion, with the patronage of the Municipality of Foggia and the Province of Foggia, various bodies, associations and local entities that manage SAI projects – Reception and Integration System – and the inclusion of migrant citizens, promote a series of initiatives – which will culminate on June 19th with the “Refugee Festival” – aimed at stimulating in the ritual of the meeting the possibility of approaching the theme of refugees and migrants by listening to their voices, entering into their stories, discovering their artistic qualities, tasting their dishes, playing together.

THE PROMOTERS. All the initiatives arise from the informal network of entities involved in the field of reception and immigration which involves: Medtraining, Arci Provincial Committee of Foggia, Mondo Nuovo, Arcobaleno cooperative, Solidaunia, Fratelli della Stazione, Csv Foggia, Parcocittà, Anolf Cisl, Provincial Acli of Foggia, Casa Sankara, CGIL, UIL, CISL, San Giovanni di Dio, consortium of social cooperatives Beyond / the business network, Un Sorriso per tutti, Socialservice.it, Consorzio Aranea, Le Bigotte.
