Cremona Test 2024, summary of the second day

The Yamahas take to the track and take the lead in the SBK classification, with Remy Gardner in the lead ahead of Locatelli.

The second day of testing at the Cremona Circuit in San Martino del Lago, where one of the rounds of the 2024 SBK season will be held, ended with the best time achieved by Remy Gardner aboard his semi-official Yamaha R1 from the GRT GYTR team, in 1:28.860.

Wayne’s son took the session lead by a whisker from his teammate Andrea Locatelli, the first of the full factory riders less than 0.06 seconds behind Gardner’s time. On the other hand, the Australian was decidedly busier on the track, completing a whopping 112 laps, compared to 72 for the former SSP champion.

Third position for Michael Ruben Rinaldi, who took advantage of the greater experience gained on this track to achieve another top three after the one obtained yesterday. Sam Lowes, leader on Thursday, instead dropped to fourth place, almost three tenths behind the Yamahas, a sign of how the R1s work very well here in Cremona.

The top five is completed by Scott Redding, who precedes the official Ducati of Nicolò Bulega (with 94 laps completed). Like the Yamaha Crescent team, the official Aruba.it Racing team also opted to compete in just one day, also faced by the championship leader and double world champion Álvaro Bautista: ninth place finish for the Spaniard, 0.7 seconds behind Gardner.

Ahead of Bautista we find the bikes of Garrett Gerloff, seventh on the BMW, and Dominique Aegerter, eighth on the second Yamaha GRT. Tito Rabat, standard bearer of the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing garage, completes the top ten. The former Moto2 champion completed 233 laps between yesterday and today.

This concludes the collective tests on the Lombardy track. The first response from the Cremona track was good, but we will now have to wait until September before we can savor the world championship debut of the SBK riders and not on a race weekend.
