«The bell rings at 10.50pm, stop at 11pm»

«We will do like the English pubs, at 10.50pm the bell will ring for the last drink and at 11pm the shutters will be down and everyone will go home». They say it jokingly, but not too much, Niccolò Moro and Edoardo De Nardi who reopened today, Friday 24 May, at 11 am «QueiTurboRagazzi”, a venue in via Campana which was forced to close about a month ago, thanks to the exceeding of the decibels to the detriment of the residents of the building on which the bar stands. A lost battle, therefore, against the Arpav and, above all, the united front of the residents, who on several occasions they requested measurements and closures by the Municipality.

The closure

It all started in November 2022 when the first report from the competent office revealed that, with the windows open, the legal limits were exceeded by a few decibels. From there a series of requests for early closures began, adaptation of the facilities, clearing of the stalls overlooking the Buranelli, and between stamped papers, lawyers, official and biased measurements, we reached the epilogue of last April, when the latest sentence forced the closure of the two operators. The owners obeyed, but decided to reopen with a new formula, different time and a few pebbles from the shoe that they removed by posting a series of phrases on the shop windows that suggest that if they have lost a battle, they want to win the war. «In the end it was enough to just close the windows», «Always our fault», «There is no defeat in the heart of the Turbos». «We were really tired – explains Moro – of continuing in this absurd way of moves and counter-moves, of photographs taken during the night by the neighbor to demonstrate our non-compliances, of checks and sanctions and letters from lawyers. My partner and I looked at each other and said we didn’t want to give up. So today he reopens, closing at 11pm and focusing on a type of clientele that is a little different from the usual one.”

The new formula

There will be more space for the aperitif and a few more shots, no cuisine but accompanying “treats” such as meatballs or sandwiches, small cutting boards and variations on the theme. However, the Martini-based drinks and the four variations of Americano, a hallmark of the mixologist Moro, will remain on the menu. «And then we will reduce the 150 gin labels – continues Moro – to 80, it wouldn’t make sense to keep so many». The opening hours will be 11am-11pm so as not to cause further disruption to the community. «Our intent was simply to have a place and manage it as best as possible, doing our job – concludes the manager – but given the events of the last two years, between lawyers, expenses and injunctions, we believe that this timetable should no longer cause problems for anyone. We have also given up cooking, we don’t want them to accuse us of spreading odors into the air that citizens don’t like. We have chosen to be unassailable from any point of view and still keep a living space open in the center of the city.”
