The question of the famous seismic precursors, or rather of those particular variations of some scientific parameters capable of making us understand that a strong earthquake is about to arrive, still remains one of the main debates in seismology. In fact, before a large earthquake, the stress states that accumulate under the earth’s surface lead to changes in various parameters. For decades we have been trying to understand whether some variations can actually represent a reliable seismic precursor, including for example the concentration of radon gas but not only. Before the Amatrice earthquake on August 24th, already from March-April, it seems that the concentration of Iron, Vanadium, Arsenic and Chromium increased up to 20 times.
