L’AQUILA – The guesthouse for organ transplant patients will be inaugurated at 11.30 am on Tuesday 28 May 2024 in via Pier delle Vigne, 9 (condominium “Ariete” – behind the Solaria complex). This structure is also offered on free loan by the Municipality of L’Aquila.

After the exclusive creation by L’Aquila per la vita ETS of the guesthouse for cancer patients, now fully functional, the second “Welcoming Rifugio dell’Aquila” is ready, this time dedicated to organ transplant patients.

The management of the L’Aquila institution thus accepted the request from Prof. Fabio Vistoli, Director of General Surgery for Organ Transplants at the San Salvatore Hospital in L’Aquila. L’Aquila per la Vita, in concert with the “Scientific Association for Transplants and Research in Abruzzo Onlus” (ASTRA) – represented by Prof. Vistoli – and with the “National Association of Kidney Transplant Patients (ANTR) Provincial Section of L’Aquila” – represented by Mr. Maurizio Videtta – has created a second ‘refuge’ where organ transplant patients and their companions who are not residents of L’Aquila will find totally free hospitality. ‘

The welcoming ‘Aquila Refuge’, managed by L’Aquila per la vita EST, ASTRA and ANTR, aims to be a point of reference for transplant patients and their families being treated at the S. Salvatore Hospital in L’Aquila, who can benefit from welcoming accommodation during the periods necessary for treatment. ‘The welcoming Rifugio dell’Aquila’ What you will find: ‘The welcoming Rifugio dell’Aquila’ is the reception facility in L’Aquila, where each transplant patient has a double room available in which to stay with any companion; a fully equipped kitchen with burners, refrigerator, dishwasher and all other necessary utensils; a dining room; three bedrooms, two of which are double and one twin, each with TV, wardrobe, dresser and bedside tables; two fully furnished bathrooms, one with washing machine; living area with TV; small library; a reading space; two large terraces; an external communal garden.

The structure, located on the second floor, is served by a lift. The duration of the stay is defined by the therapy times and depends on the availability of the rooms. Companions can also stay in the refuge during the patients’ hospitalization period.
