Fifth stage – from Santa Cesarea Terme to Marina Serra – of the walking journey of three friends from Gallarate on the Camino del Salento
We move away from Santa Cesarea heading towards the first stop of the day: the beautiful Castro.
Anciently called Castrum Minervae by the Romans, due to the presence of the remains of a temple dedicated by the Greeks to Athena (Minerva), the name was then contracted into Castrum, and finally Italianized into Castro.
The view is very beautiful which can be enjoyed from the viewpoint of the square in front of the castle.
We go down a long staircase to reach the sea, which we coast for a short distance and then enter the hinterland, among the Mediterranean scruband descend towards Cala dell’Acquaviva, small but very pretty.
We go up the paths seeing the sea below us, until the sheer descent towards the seaside town of Porto Tricase.
We stop for a short break and enjoy the passage while we stock up on water, but the destination is now close: we just need to coast along the sea continuing towards Marina Serra (fraction of Tricase).
Here a regenerating, and more than deserved, bath in the stupendous is a must natural swimming pool.
