Coastal erosion in Pomezia and Fiumicino, the Region allocates 450 thousand euros

To counteract the damage of storm surges and of thecoastal erosion there Region has allocated 450 thousand euros to redevelop the stretch of Lazio coast between Pomezia and Fiumicino. The legislative measure was adopted during the session of Regional Council when the House approved an amendment presented by the aCouncilor for Budget and Agriculture of Lazio, Giancarlo Righini.

Beach nourishment

«This is an important intervention – explains Righini – aimed at safeguarding a coastal area often affected by flooding caused by rising sea levels. It is our intention to start the works as soon as possible beach nourishment to make them usable in view of the summer season. Furthermore, the resources allocated will also be used for redevelopment and commissioning coastal safety. After all, prevention remains the only way to protect the territory, and this also and above all applies to the southern coast of the region.”

Legambiente: 2023 is the year of a red stamp

According to Legambiente data, 2023 was a red flag year for the climate, marked by a continuously growing trend of extreme meteorological events, which in Lazio mainly concern storm surges and tornadoes. Furthermore, Rome is the capital of Italy for the number of extreme events with 25 episodes, including flooding, floods, landslides, storm surges, hailstorms and exceptional temperatures.
