Pesaro, Belloni: «Remodulating the Union of Municipalities: resources are unbalanced» – News Pesaro – CentroPagina

PESARO – Union of municipalities, thawed from oblivion. Enzo Belloni, founder of “Una Città in Comune”spoke about it during a meeting with citizens and the press.

«We need a long-term vision. The first theme is the Union of Municipalities. We have to remodulate its functioning. Today Pesaro is a financier of the Union: we generate approximately 70 percent of the resources then distributed among all the Municipalities, but we only have 30 percent left. This means fewer resources for maintenance, fewer services for citizens. For example, less Local Police on our territory, because the Police Forces have to intervene in a very large area. A highly unbalanced situation, which I believe needs to be reviewed carefully but profoundly.”

The councilor and candidate spoke on the issue of water. «It’s ending, there’s no point in beating around the bush. We draw from many small wells, which the current torrential rains are unable to adequately feed. The problem is already starting to be felt in places much further upstream from Pesaro, but the scarcity of water still exists. Which solution to apply? The reservoirs are perhaps the best answer. Large invasions, why else the increase in temperature due to climate change it generates large evaporation and the water mass is heavily affected. Studying where and how to create a reservoir requires at least two years of time. More than double to have it running. If we don’t address the problem immediately, by the end of the legislature it could “explode” in our hands. On a side note: desalinating the sea requires an enormous expenditure of energy, which we don’t have, and a large production of waste sludge, which we don’t know where to put.”

Finally, waste. «The landfills around us are practically full, we have no place left to put them. Someone takes them outside the Region, with enormous costs and very high pollution. We have to find solutions. Reducing volumes remains a very distant and complicated topic. We have to treat the waste. Expanded landfills, or new ones? Biodigesters? Waste to energy plants? I don’t have the answer, but we have to address the issue, knowing full well that someone will object. But the good of the whole community must have priority. Among other things, if we manage to treat waste in our territory we let the dedicated company work, which produces important economic resources, through the dividends we receive. And these resources are precious for us to finance essential social services for people who need help. Without resources there can be no help.”
