Matera hosts the first edition of the Stone Balance Interfest

From 31 May to 2 June performances, workshops and artistic installations

From 31 May to 2 June, Matera will host the first edition of the Stone Balance Interfest, a festival dedicated to Stone Balance, a performance art that uses the laws of physics to create evocative works of art with balanced stones. The initiative is organized by the Esperanto association and includes three days of live performances, artistic installations, workshops and experiences in nature.

The festival will be inaugurated on Friday 31 May at 6.00 pm at the Palazzo dell’Annunziata, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto 1, with an opening conference. During the public meeting the official program will be presented and the issues related to Stone Balance as a form of Land Art, the educational role of art and environmental sustainability will be discussed.

Among the participants in the conference there will be representatives of the sponsoring bodies and partner institutions of the event. The artists protagonists of the festival will also be presented: Marco Avenante (Italy), Konstantinos Barouktsis (Greece), Greg William Jagassar (Canada-Switzerland), Rudolf Novak (Czech Republic), Pinky Par Monks (Philippines-Italy), Gianluigi Pistone (Italy ), SP Ranza (France) and Agostino Senese (Italy).

The festival, sponsored by the Basilicata Region, the Municipality of Matera, the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, the Murgia Materana Park Authority, Legambiente Basilicata and ANFFAS, is supported by numerous technical and cultural partners, including Cooperativa Sychronos, Musma Museo della Scultura Contemporanea of Matera, TAM Tower Art Museum, South Heritage Foundation and Matera Sum Hypogeum. During the festival, events will take place in several iconic locations in the city, offering participants a complete immersion in the art of Stone Balance.
