Massacre of animals on an estate of San Cataldo (Lecce), according to reconstructions, it was a pack of wolves who acted. The victims were 10 goats and 8 fallow deer, killed inside the Piccolo Ranch, on the road that leads from the Lecce marina to the Cesine oasis.

The situation

The story, with an attached video, was the subject of controversy on social media. The presence of wolves in Salento is now confirmed. Recently, even in the southernmost areas of the province, nocturnal attacks by animals have been reported which massacre livestock for food. A solution is called for by many, including capture, although it is complex to establish how and whether to intervene.
What happened at the Piccolo Ranch, as we said, was the subject of a film that documented the conditions in which the mauled animals found themselves, with the consequent emotional damage for those who raise them, as well as economic damage for the farms.
There are studies of different kinds on the return of the wolf to Salento, conducted by university researchers. According to experts, the wolf plays a fundamental role in ecosystems, however a countermeasure is being sought to avoid damage to livestock. It is well known that the fascinating wild animal is generally not dangerous to humans.
According to studies carried out, there are currently between 15 and 20 wolf specimens. The species is subject to the phenomenon of dispersion, as it is the victim of continuous killing on the roads. Experts have always recommended taking particular care of your pets, not letting them loose in areas where they are more likely to encounter predators. Mostly along the coasts.
