The latest developments in medical genetics are discussed in Taranto

Industry experts will share their knowledge and discuss the latest innovations in the field of Medical Genetics

Taranto – The second edition of the conference “Medical Genetics in Puglia and Basilicata: Together to Look to the Future” will be held on Friday 24 May 2024, at the Salina Hotel in Taranto. The event, organized by the Regional Section SIGU (Italian Society of Human Genetics) for Puglia and Basilicata, aims to address crucial issues that define the role and activities of Medical Genetics in the neonatal period, in the oncology field and in the diagnostic process of diseases rare genetics.Brochure Genetica_2024-compresso

“This conference is part of a program of training activities promoted by the SIGU Regional Section for Puglia and Basilicata, with the aim of harmonizing diagnostic and care pathways in line with national and international guidelines”, states the Scientific Committee. “Through a comparison between different clinical and laboratory realities, we aim to define the role of Medical Genetics in the era of latest generation sequencing technologies, such as Array and NGS, and to promote the integration between genetics and oncology”.

The conference will open with a lectio magistralis entitled “Epigenomic approach to the study of genetic diseases” held by Prof. Monica Rosa Miozzo of the University of Milan. The epigenomic approach studies reversible modifications of the genome that influence gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, playing an important role in the development of genetic diseases.

Medical genetics first edition

During the conference, crucial topics such as “Medical Genetics between Arrays and NGS”, “Neonatal Screening: from Molecular Bases to Advanced Therapies” and “Genetics meets Oncology” will be addressed. Industry experts will share their knowledge and discuss the latest innovations in the field of Medical Genetics, with the aim of improving the early diagnosis and management of genetic diseases.

The second lectio magistralis held by the professor Giorgina SpecchiaEmeritus of the University of Bari, on the role of cytogenetics in the prognostic definition in the era of molecular technologies will delve into the importance of cytogenetics in the context of molecular technologies for an accurate and personalized prognosis.

The event, organized by Qiblì srl, National ECM Provideris sponsored by ASL of Taranto, Order of Biologists Puglia and Basilicata, SIGU Puglia-Basilicata And Order of Doctors of the Province of Taranto.
