Alessandria del Carretto. The Mask Museum inaugurated

The Alessandrino Museum of Masks has been inaugurated, a new museum housed within the ancient walls of Palazzo Chidichimo, in Alessandria del Carretto, in the heart of the Pollino National Park. The mayor, Domenico Vuodo, cut the ribbon of the Museum intended to host the masks of traditional Italian and international folk carnivals from all over the world. An entire wing of the structure is, however, dedicated to the Alessandria carnival, with its iconic and evocative characters. Those present thus crossed the doors of a place full of magic, destined to grow in the coming months, also thanks to the commitment of the “I Połëcënellë” association and its president, Antonio Arvia.

The Carnival of Alessandria del Carretto materializes a story, a narrative made of gestures and rites, in which the Apollonian and Dionysian worlds meet and clash, sublimating the concept of time, which transforms everything through the contrast between the phases of life, on a journey that leads from life to death but only as an intermediate stage before rebirth.

The ribbon cutting was preceded by an in-depth meeting on the theme of the Carnival of Alessandria del Carretto, held in the conference room of Palazzo Chidichimo. Together with the mayor of Alessandria del Carretto, Domenico Vuodo, and Antonio Arvia, president of the “I Połëcënellë” association, the experts Alessandro Arvia and Paolo Napoli spoke, who underlined some dynamics of the local carnival rites and how much more there is to investigate and discover the Alessandria Carnival.
