The stage scheduled for today at the Giro d’Italia 2024 is completely changed: the riders will leave Livignano by bike to enter Switzerland through the Alla Schera tunnel, here on board the team vehicles, they will reach Prato allo Stelvio where, at 2pm, there will be the route of the stage. The Umbrailpass has been deleted from the route, as have Passo di Eira and Passo del Foscagno, but the end remains after the long valley.
Tadej Pogacar is absolutely dominant having won by separation at the finish line in Livigno before the rest day. Thomas, second in the standings, is more than 6 minutes behind.
The 16th stage of the Giro d’Italia was upset and heavily cut
The stage is therefore turned upside down with the runners arriving with the cars or buses of their respective teams in Prato dello Stelvio, where the stage will start at 2pm, turned upside down due to the snow. The pass skips the Umbra, as does Passo di Eira and Passo del Foscagno, as well as Cima Coppi. The finale remains after the long valley.

After meeting, the organizers established that the runners will start by bicycle from Livigno, but will change in the tunnels and enter Swiss territory via the La Schera tunnel. There, aboard the team cars, they will reach Prato allo Stelvio. From the Stelvio the stage will officially begin at 2 pm.

During the 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia a tragedy was touched during the descent from the Mortirolo. The protagonist of the sad episode told it once he reached the finish line in Livigno. It’s about Jenthe Biermans who, making a wrong turn, fell into a ravine: “A flight of about 30 meters. At first I couldn’t move anymore.”

From Livigno another mountain stop: climb the Cima Coppi
Third week begins with the 16th stage which is a high altitude stage, with the climbing of the Cima Coppi 2024 (the Gioco di Santa Maria at 2,498 metres) and an uphill finish, which presents two asperities that will make selection: first the Pass Pinei (GPM 1), then the finish line at the summit of Monte Pana (GPM 2).
