The first Mountain Theater festival in Italy is born from a collaboration between the Italian Alpine Club and the Teatro Verdi of Pordenone

The Italian Alpine Club and the Teatro Verdi Pordenone, continuing the path traced in recent years with the Mountain Project, presented during a press conference “Mountain Theater Festival”, event, the first of its kind at a national level which, through shows, new dramaturgy, meetings, conferences, literature, intends to concretely support the growth of resilient communities and contribute to the revitalization of the valleys and mountain communities of the province of Pordenone.

The collaboration between CAI Nazionale and Teatro Verdi Pordenone was made official with the signing of a specific agreement.

The President of Verdi was present at the conference Giovanni Lessio, Angelo Schenamember of the Central Steering Committee of the CAI, the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani, the Environment Councilor of the Municipality of Pordenone Mattia Tirellithe Regional Councilor for Infrastructure Cristina Amirante and the General Director of Verdi Marika Saccomani.

«Bringing theater to the Mountains and themes dear to the Mountains into the theater is a very concrete homage to those who continue to live in the mountains and to those who administer it»explained the Minister Luca Ciriani. «There are many examples of resilience in the highlands and entire communities that remain clinging to their mountains, even if the phenomenon of depopulation and the loss of these assets is seriously increasing. Having undertaken this path of quality cultural entertainment offers an important national perspective – thanks also to the commitment of the CAI and the Ministry of Tourism – and is proposed as a true pilot project that embraces the new trends of more sustainable tourism and niche, as well as representing an important piece in view of the candidacy of Pordenone as Capital of Culture 2027″, concluded the minister.

«Renewing and increasing our summer programming in the Pordenone valleys means concretely bringing our stage to high altitude – explains the President Giovanni Lessio – a tangible sign of attention and closeness towards those who live in those mountains, but also a way to bring the public from the plains up to high altitude. The time was ripe to reap the fruits of the commitment of these years and face, together with the CAI, the construction of an ambitious project such as the launch of the first mountain theater festival in Italy. The success of the meetings and the shows that we have organized over time, the co-production of an original show that arises from our Competition, the important institutional support for the project make us understand that we are on the right path. Added to this is the constant contact with trade associations to create a virtuous circle between training, activities for the acquisition of skills and business start-ups».

«The collaboration we are carrying out with the Teatro Verdi of Pordenone is the result of a new attention of the Italian Alpine Club for the world of theatrical entertainment, which we intend to develop as much as possible – he claims Angelo Schenacomponent of CAI Central Steering Committee –. After the drama competition “Beyond the Clouds” and the series of informative and scientific meetings on mountain areas “R-Evolution / Green”, the next step will be to create a theater festival of national importance linked to the mountains: it will be a great challenge original, stimulating and engaging.”
