A WWF Oasis at the Giovanni XXIII Polyclinic in Bari – Health, sport and good life

An oasis that promotes tranquility, socialization and recovery was inaugurated in the Giovanni XXIII Pediatric Unit in Bari in collaboration with WWF Italy. The green space was created thanks to the fundraising promoted by the WWF as part of the Urban Nature initiative “Nature takes care” to integrate contact with nature into people’s rehabilitation programs.

The Oasis area extends for approximately 240 square meterscontains a variety of shrubs typical of the Mediterranean scrub and includes sensory paths that can be crossed barefoot, made with different materials such as sand, gravel, lawn, bark, gravel and wooden logs.

Inside the green space there is a butterfly garden, a small pond, trees, benches and tables that create an outdoor laboratory where you can observe, learn about and learn to take care of nature. A stimulating and relaxing environment ideal for generate a positive impact on treatment paths and improve people’s emotional and physical state.

The pediatric unit welcomes between 300 and 500 boys and girls every day who access the hospital for outpatient services, accompanied by at least one parent. The WWF Oasis can be used by healthcare personnel, psychologists, social workers and voluntary associations.
