Modena, the Catellani era begins. Make room for young people and targeted purchases

The meeting last Tuesday and the final decision in the last meeting on Sunday were useful only to communicate to Davide Vaira that the relationship had reached its natural end. After a few days’ reflection (but, evidently, already in mind for some time) the Rivetti family, in particular in the role of CEO Matteo Rivetti, decided not to accept the requests of the now former sporting director.

For Vaira the time had come for a careful evaluation of the squad, which had also largely reached the end of a cycle and the changes would have been massive for the manager of the technical area. The performance under Bianco’s management was not satisfactory and, therefore, at the Rivetti Vaira had expressed his desire to intervene in various sectors to return to the starting line with renewed ambitions, shared with Bisoli, with whom the relationship had begun well and was continuing equally well. These are the topics on the table during the end-of-season chat. Legitimately, however, the Rivettis for their part considered the cycle of promotion to Serie B and double salvation to be closed with the sporting director, objectives requested and obtained, net of sometimes confusing statements before and during the year. It is normal, however, for Vaira to be blamed for several unfortunate market choices and contracts that are now difficult to dispose of if Modena no longer wants to focus on the various Oukhadda, Tremolada, Strizzolo, for example.

Furthermore, the season we have just experienced has left us with a few moments of tension too many in the corridors of Viale Monte Kosica, without forgetting the negativity that has arisen throughout the entire environment. Now, the choice of successor. It seemed like fantasy but the desire to focus on Andrea Catellani has its own logic, if you know a little about the ownership philosophy.

Catellani represents the new advance, the brilliant boy with constant ideas (this is what those who share the youth sector offices with him tell us) and, a non-trivial detail, he already knows very well what the Rivettis have in mind. That is, the infrastructure projects that will concretely start from 2025, the intentions of a sustainable and balanced sports program (paying attention to the famous longer-than-you-can-be-able step) with targeted and futuristic purchases to accompany guys like Bozhanaj and Abiuso. Proposals that, probably, an experienced sports director would not welcome because, as we know, any manager of a certain caliber wants change, revolution, to impose his own ideas and, consequently, expose himself to risky investments. In short, a young and lively Modena to be handed over to Bisoli, whose combination will remain to be verified but the mix between young and experienced, in theory, seems to be there. Of course, this is a small leap into the void. Maybe calculated, maybe not.

Finally, it should be noted that Fabio Dall’Omo, Head of corporate activities for the youth sector and Academy, would also arrive at the greetings, apparently Reggio Emilia for him.
