More bad weather in Italy. After the storms and flooding of the last few hours, new cold currents descending towards Portugal will keep alive a vast depression that has nestled between central western Europe, the central Mediterranean and north Africa. This is a fact that will cause new disturbances on our peninsula. But where? And for how long?

Weather, red alert in Lombardy and Veneto. Zaia: «Huge damage». Thunderstorms and hail also in Tuscany

Forecasts

No respite for Italy. Bad weather will also characterize this week, with showers and disturbances across the entire peninsula. According to 3BMeteo forecasts, cold currents of Greenland origin descending towards Portugal will keep alive a vast trough that has nestled between central western Europe, the central Mediterranean and north Africa. A circulation that will continue to churn out thunderstorms destined to affect various nations including Italy until next weekend. The vortex currently present over North-West Africa will soon merge with the one visible between Spain and France to give rise to a wider depression circulation which will place its minimum over central Italy in the night between today and tomorrow. This means bad weather with increasingly intense phenomena that will begin to target our northern regions again and, in addition, also the central ones. Tomorrow Tuesday the low will start to rise towards Germany and on Wednesday it will be more or less over Holland, then between Thursday and Friday it will head towards England. During this slow journey the vortex will still have the opportunity to influence the weather on part of the Peninsula, especially Northern Italy, bringing locally strong thunderstorms while the Center and the South will mainly be free from bad weather except in isolated cases.

Tuesday 21 May

On Tuesday, an improvement in the weather is expected in the central regions after some last strong storms in the morning. In the North the sky will still be very unstable or disturbed with phenomena that will be concentrated between Lombardy and Triveneto, and the worst conditions are expected in the Veneto with possible critical issues due to the large amount of rain already fallen in recent days to which another quantity estimated at 40/60mm. The situation is decidedly better in the South, with mild variability in the Tyrrhenian area with some occasional rain showers. Temperatures will tend to decrease especially in the South. Ventilation will be moderated from the southern quadrants.

Wednesday 22 May

Strong instability will also characterize Wednesday, especially in the North-West and Lombardy mainly in the afternoon, while between Veneto and Friuli it may be present from the morning and give rise to locally strong showers and thunderstorms. Better weather conditions in the Center and South but not without some afternoon thunderstorms in inland areas. Temperatures will not undergo major variations.

Thursday 23 May

More marked instability could return on Thursday and once again mainly in the North. Showers and thunderstorms may be present from the morning and then become more widespread and locally of strong intensity in the afternoon. Some storms could also affect part of the Center. The South would continue to feel the effects of greater stability.

Friday 24 May

On Friday the instability should be more isolated and manifest itself mainly in the central hours in the Alpine and pre-Alpine sectors but with some overshoots up to the north-western plain areas. No significant rainfall is expected in the Center and South. Temperatures should not undergo substantial variations except for local decreases in the North on Thursday.
