These days the pink hues of the Giro dominate Italy but Piacenza is starting to turn Tour yellow. The Emilian town, starting point of the third stage of the Grande Boucle 2024, is preparing for the historic event of next July 1st. Yellow flags flutter hanging from street lamps, banners of the same color begin to appear along the city avenues and several rows of festoons adorn Piazza Cavalli, the heart of the city.
And just a stone’s throw from Palazzo Gotico, in Sala Cattivilli, the Grand Départ Trophy is on displaywhich since 2013 has been “travelling” between the locations that host the Great Start of the transalpine race.
All around the trophy photographs, paintings, a commemorative Santini shirt and, on the wall, the projection of some short videos that instantly catapult the visitor into the Tour de France atmosphere.
If in a couple of days the Grand Départ Trophy will leave the city to head towards Turin and Piedmontthe yellow Tour certainly won’t leave Piacenza: in fact, there are many events that will accompany enthusiasts to the key date of Monday 1st July when the strongest cyclists in the world will pedal through the streets of Piacenza.
