Excellent results for Motris Bitonto Karate in the regional rookie championship. He qualified for the Italian karate beginners championship Simone Coviello who, after four matches won in sequence, earned the title of regional champion – 48 kg Puglia. He will compete in Ostia next 1-2 June. Together with him it adds Francesco Mattiawho finished third without qualifying for the Italian championships.

In the same competition, the selection for the Coni Trophy was up for grabs, where the selection criteria for the athletes who will take part in the national phase were: a female Kata athlete (winner of the regional qualifying phase for female Kata beginners); a male Kata athlete (winner of the regional qualifying phase for male Kata beginners); a female Kumite athlete resulting from the direct clash between the winner of the regional qualifying phase for rookies in the female category in the 45 kg category and that of the 50 kg category; an athlete from the men’s Kumite resulting from the direct clash between the winner of the regional qualifying phase for rookies in the men’s 43 kg category and that of 48 kg; a male Kumite athlete resulting from the direct clash between the winner of the regional rookie qualifying phase in the male 53 kg category with that of 58 kg.

Together with them were added the athletes qualified by right for the national final of the Italian debutant championship, present in the region and belonging to the women’s 45 and 50 kg and men’s 43, 48, 53 and 58 kg kumite categories. Simone Coviello also participated in this new selection: in his group there were three athletes with a direct elimination draw, without recovery, in the case of a higher number of athletes.

“Simone wins the first match and also won the second final, which unfortunately was then lost due to some oversights. They certainly do nothing but make us full of pride and give us hope for the near future. Now head on to the next competitive commitments which will not be missed from now until the end of June”, declared maestro Salvatore Cioce.
