The lash of bad weather continues and it will be a long night in Lombardy. Among the places most affected in the last few hours are Cesano Maderno, with around 90 millimeters of rain falling in an hour and various critical issues as reported by the Municipality. A tall tree also fell due to violent gusts of wind. Once the Borromeo park was closed, they arranged themselves monitoring in public buildings and schools.
I am few Municipalities so far who ordered the closure of schools for Tuesday morning: among them Bollate, San Donato Milanese and Peschiera Borromeo.
The red alert remains and also concerns the province of Varese, where the storm is raging (READ HERE).
Meanwhile, from Milan, councilor Marco Granelli gave an update after midnight: «Red alert in Milan and Lombardy due to hydrogeological risk, until at least the entire morning of tomorrow and into the night. The forecasts speak of strong thunderstorms possible in specific locations, in a context of disturbance with very humid air full of water coming from the Ligurian Sea. In the afternoon we had a strong storm between 1pm and 3pm in Paderno Dugnano and Seveso with 33 mm/h in Paderno and 55 mm/h in Seveso, and another in Rho between 6pm and 7pm with 34 mm/h. And then intense rains in the city and in Brianza.”
Attention remains very high: «It is expected to continue like this until midday tomorrow with more significant peaks in the late night and early morning. Seveso has risen with the heavy rains and then now it has come down. The basin is empty and ready to welcome flood water. The Lambro was low all afternoon and it had a surge in the last hour exceeding two metres. For now, no flooded underpass and a fallen tree in Largo Boccioni. We ask everyone to pay maximum attention in general, in the underpasses, in the Pontelambro district and in the Seveso risk districts. You cannot enter Lambro Park and Vittorini Park in Pontelambro due to the risk of flooding.”
In Milan the Coc is active «with the entire civil protection system (Civil Protection, MM, Local Police, AVR, ATM, AMSA, ….), active control of the Seveso basin ready to come into operation, in Pontelambro we have positioned water pumps and motor pumps, bags, as well as having set up a reception point in case of need”. On the school front, school heads of risk areas have been warned, “asking maximum attention to communications of any closures early tomorrow morning in the event of flooding”. But precisely for tonight no preventive closure has been ordered.
