New heavy rains are arriving in Lombardy starting from today’s afternoon, Monday 20 May 2024, which will intensify during the evening and night with possible storms. The Lombardy Region Civil Protection operations room has therefore issued an orange weather alert, valid for the province of Pavia.
Again heavy rains
During the afternoon today, Monday 20 May 2024, expected showers and thunderstorms, also organized in multicell, on the southern areas of the Region and extending towards the North-East. Between late afternoon and evening a low depression, rising over the Ligurian Gulf, will attract very humid flows from the South-East into the medium-lower layers, favoring the intensification of precipitation in the southern and central areas with possible storms, between the evening and late evening and persisting into the night. Less intense rainfall is reported in the Alpine areas. Possible premises cumulative hourly even of 30mm. Moderate or strong eastern ventilation in the plains, with local reinforcements during more intense convective events.
More showers tomorrow
During the night and during the morning of tomorrow, Tuesday 21 May 2024, intense south-eastern humid flows will still persist, which may determine the plain areas and piedmont areas cumulative between 40 and over 80 mm in 12 hours. Between late morning and early afternoon the departure of the low depression towards the Northeast will favor a progressive attenuation of precipitation on the areas on the central western areas, but they will result still intense in the central-eastern areas.
Rainfall generally attenuation in the evening, albeit with the possibility of scattered showers or local thunderstorms in the late evening starting from the western areas, extending towards the East. They are not excluded throughout the day precipitation peaks in 24 hours between 60 and 100 mm in the high plain areas. We also highlight the possible convective nature of the events.
On Tuesday morning, the Functional Center will re-evaluate the new forecast scenarios and the data recorded in the area for theupdate of the alert codes valid starting from the second half of the day of 21 May 2024.

Wednesday 22 May 2024 – Variable cloud cover throughout the day with more frequent accumulations in the Alps, Pre-Alps and high plains. Scattered showers or thunderstorms during the night and early morning; from the early afternoon scattered thunderstorms, possible everywhere but more likely on the western plain and Pre-Alps; partially exhausted by evening. Minimum temperatures moderately decreasing, maximum temperatures stationary or slightly rising. In the plains minimums around 12 °C, maximums around 21 °C.
Thursday 23 May 2024 – Everywhere very cloudy or overcast. Possible sunny spells in the evening in the Alps. Precipitation during the night and morning of weak or moderate intensity, even in the form of a shower or thunderstorm, more likely on the western plains and the North-West; from late morning also widespread thunderstorms, extending to a large part of the region, possible until the evening, then attenuating and dying out; residues on the eastern plain. Minimum temperatures slightly decreasing, maximum temperatures moderately decreasing.
Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May 2024 – Variable clouds everywhere on Friday and Saturday with more extensive and compact coverage between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, when scattered precipitations of weak or moderate intensity, including showers or thunderstorms, will be probable. Minimum temperatures stationary, maximum temperatures rising slightly. Light to moderate variable winds.
