At approximately 11.30 am today, 20 May 2024, the personnel of the Port Authority of Trieste and of the Aquatic Underwater Rescue Unit of the Trieste Fire Brigade, supported by a mobile crane and the SAR CP881 patrol boat, intervened at Pier VI of the Punto Franco Nuovo of Trieste for the recovery of a car which, due to a fault in the parking devices, had fallen into the water, fortunately without any occupants on board. The intervention was facilitated thanks to the support of the Port System Authority and the Port of Trieste Services.

Once immersed, the fire brigade divers, after a brief search, found the car lying on the bottom at a depth of approximately 19 meters and about fifty meters from the pier.

The diving staff proceeded to hook the car to a lifting balloon which, once filled with air, brought the vehicle into semi-floating condition, which was then towed by the Coast Guard patrol boat near the edge of the quay, where the divers proceeded to hook the car to the mobile crane which finally lifted the vehicle that had fallen into the water and placed it on the pier.

The timeliness of the intervention averted any potential damage to the marine environment and highlighted once again the close collaborative relationship and consolidated synergy established at a local level between the bodies responsible for the rescue.
