Weather, red alert in Lombardy, storms and intense rain arriving next night between Como, Varese and Milan

Red alert in Lombardy due to hydrogeological and hydraulic risk in the next few hours, between Varesotto, Comasco, Brianza and Milanese.

The Civil Protection of the Lombardy Region issued a weather warning bulletin just before 3pm today in which it reads that during the afternoon of 05/20 showers and thunderstorms are expected, also organized in multi-cell, in the southern areas of the Region and in extension towards the North-East.

Intense rain and storms next night between Como, Varese and Milan

“Between late afternoon and evening a low depression, rising over the Ligurian Gulf, will attract very humid flows from the South-East into the medium-lower layers, favoring the intensification of precipitation in the southern and central areas with possible cloudbursts, between the evening and late in the evening, and persisting into the night.”

So very heavy rain starting from 9pm today, Monday 20 May and code red alert starting from midnight.

“During the night and during the morning of tomorrow 21/05, intense south-eastern humid flows will still persist, which could cause cumulated levels of between 40 and over 80 mm in 12 hours in the plains and piedmont areas”.

Red alert in Lombardy for the weather in the next few hours

The phenomena will attenuate tomorrow, Tuesday 21 May, as stated in the Civil Protection bulletin. “Between late morning and early afternoon, the departure of the low pressure towards the North-East will favor a progressive attenuation of precipitation in the central-western areas, but it will still be intense in the central-eastern areas. Precipitation generally attenuates in the evening, albeit with the possibility of new scattered showers or local thunderstorms in the late evening starting from the western areas, extending towards the East”.
