TRIESTE The Local Police of Trieste arrested two passers-by. The investigation began following some reports regarding the presence of migrants in transit in the wooded area between Trebiciano and Padriciano.

On the afternoon of Sunday 12 May, the attention of the police was focused on a vehicle with a Czech Republic license plate, which, after having entered the cycle-pedestrian path that connects nearby Slovenia with Trebiciano, was literally “bottled” by unmarked vehicles in a a rather narrow stretch of route, to be controlled and to avoid possible escapes by the driver and dangerous chases.

Once the vehicle was stopped safely, the driver of the vehicle was placed in custody by some officers while other operators ascertained the presence on board the vehicle of six Egyptian migrants, aged between 17 and 35.

Having assumed that the transport of people would involve multiple vehicles, the area was immediately cleared and after a few minutes a second car with a Hungarian license plate arrived.

Also in this case the vehicle was immediately stopped. The driver tried to grab a switchblade that he kept under the front seat, but was immediately neutralized and blocked by the local police.

On board this second vehicle there were three Syrian citizens, also in this case without documents. After the ritual investigations, the two passers, PD from 1997 and KO from 1982, both Ukrainian citizens, were arrested for the alleged crime of aiding and abetting illegal immigration and taken to the Coroneo prison.

For possession of the switchblade, KO was charged with a violation of carrying weapons for which a license is not permitted, while the two vehicles used for transport were seized for confiscation.

For two of the nine migrants, immediate rejection was ordered with simultaneous entrustment to Slovenian Police personnel, while a minor was entrusted to an affiliated city facility.

The remaining six men, having expressed their intention to request international protection, were reported free for the crime of illegal entry into the national territory.
