Festival of sustainable development, a meeting in Altamura

The Metropolitan City of Bari in collaboration with Cnr Ispa and Eu Food Safety Platform organizes a series of meetings entitled “Polisostenibili” which has the aim of starting a structured and participatory dialogue on the sustainability of agri-food supply chains, with a focus on the cereal and olive oil supply chains and biodiversity.

The event is part of the Sustainable Development Festival, now in its eighth edition, the largest Italian initiative to raise awareness and mobilize citizens, young generations, businesses, associations and institutions on the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability, organized by Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (AsviS) with the support of numerous public and private partners.

The cycle includes four workshops in the municipalities of the metropolitan area (Poggiorsini, Bitonto, Altamura, Valenzano), with companies, local authorities, universities, research bodies, trade associations and a final event in the headquarters of the metropolitan city of Bari. The methodology used (net map analysis), already applied for food safety by the Cnr Ispa as part of the Horizon 2020 “FoodSafety4Eu” project and then in Italy for the cereal supply chain as part of the National Agritech Centre, will be presented for the first time in Puglia at a local level.

By addressing aspects of the sustainability of food production and identifying elements for the definition of indicators, the meeting will contribute to the following Goals of the 2030 Agenda:
Goal 2 “Defeat hunger” regarding sustainable food production systems and resilient production (2.4);
Goal 3 “Health and well-being” regarding the reduction of negative effects on human health resulting from contamination along the supply chain (pollution and contamination of air, water and soil) (3.9);
Goal 12 “Responsible consumption and production” regarding raising awareness on the reduction of losses along production and supply chains (12.3), on the adoption of sustainable practices, including communication on sustainability in periodic company reports (12.6).

The series of events opened in Poggiorsini on May 16th and continues:
