His name is “Trinacria’s Gold Medallion”, he is a three and a half year old Siberian Husky from Canada owned by Dominique Firetto: he is the winner of the third edition of the “Sicilia Winner”, the canine competition which saw the best specimens competing they challenged each other during the 19th National Exhibition of Caltanissetta, Saturday 18 May, and the 71st International Exhibition of Palermo which was held on Sunday 19 May. Both events took place in the equestrian facility of the Parco della Favorita, in Palermo, and were organized by the Palermo Kennel Club in collaboration with the Caltanissetta dog group. The second place dog is “Uvamora’s Campanita”, a wire-haired Dachshund owned by Francesca Borroni.

Over a thousand registered dogs and 120 different breeds

“This year too we organized an international level event which saw the presence of Italian judges and those from various European countries – says Giorgio Varoli, president of the Kennel Club – over the two days we had over 1,000 registered dogs of around 120 breeds, and this year for the first time we hosted the demonstration of the dogs of the Dog Units of the Police and Public Aid. I thank those who, even in the rain, worked with passion and commitment for the success of this event which allowed owners and breeders to participate with their dogs, and the curious and passionate public to know and appreciate the qualities of the many breeds present.”

The organization

The events were organized thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Palermo which granted the area and free patronage, to the Police Forces who intervened with their dog units, to the Horse Riding Unit of the Municipal Police of Palermo, and thanks to the contribution of “Farmina Italia Pet Food”. Over the course of the two days, an international jury made up of Italian experts and those from various countries such as Denmark, Spain, Finland, Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden, evaluated dogs of numerous breeds including Dachshunds, Cane Corsos, St. Bernard Dogs, Retrievers and Spaniel, as well as some Sicilian breeds such as the Cirneco dell’Etna and the Spino degli Iblei.
