Workshop: Artificial Intelligence and Speleology Meet in Perugia

Text generative AI and its applications in the speleological field are in the spotlight

PERUGIA – The Umbrian Federation of Speleological Groups (FUGS), with the aim of promoting speleological culture and acting as a catalyst for new knowledge, has announced the organization of a workshop entitled “Relating with artificial intelligence”.

The appointment is set for Tuesday 21 May 2024 at the GSCAI Perugia headquarters, in Strada Comunale Monte Pacciano 2, and will see Andrea Scatolini, member of the UTEC Narni group and mind behind the well-known La Scintilena platform, as speaker.

The event is intended as a moment of discussion and in-depth analysis on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern society, with a particular focus on its implications in the speleological sector.

The workshop aims to provide an overview of AI, highlighting not only the benefits but also the risks and ethical issues that emerge as this technology advances.

The debate will focus in particular on text-generating AI, a frontier that is increasingly finding practical applications and which could revolutionize the way content is created and shared.

Participants will have the opportunity to understand how AI can become a useful tool for writing and documentation in the field of speleology, without however replacing the value and uniqueness of the human contribution.

The meeting is open to all those interested in discovering the potential of AI and reflecting on how it can influence the future of speleological research and dissemination.

FUGS invites the community to participate in large numbers, with the hope that the exploration of these new frontiers can stimulate a renewed interest in speleology and scientific writing.

The event, which will not be broadcast online, will be recorded to allow those who cannot be present to access the contents discussed later.

As the date approaches, the speleological community shows a growing interest in the event, recognizing the importance of staying updated on technological developments and their applications in every field, including speleology.

The appointment with “Relating with artificial intelligence” therefore promises to be an important opportunity for learning and exchange for all enthusiasts and professionals.
