Chico Forti he arrived in Verona prison where he will serve his sentence. The 65-year-old from Trentino had left the Rebibbia penitentiary institute this morning Rome where he had been transferred yesterday after landing in Sea Practice. Forti returned to Italy to continue serving his sentence after spending 24 years in prison in the United States for the murder of Dale Pike, murdered in Florida on 15 February 1998. At the airport he was welcomed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni who welcomed claimed responsibility for the government’s work and thanked the US authorities for their collaboration. After the night at Rebibbia Nuovo Complesso, Forti traveled in a prison police car and, upon arrival in Verona, immediately asked to be able to see his motherforwarding the request to the competent offices for an urgent permit to reach Trento. Maria Lonar Forti, is 96 years old and has not seen his son since 2008. The permission, which should in any case be for a few hours, will now have to be examined and granted by the Surveillance Court. The meeting could take place as early as the next few days. One of the hypotheses is that the form with the request was already filled out in Rebibbia and that the transfer to Verona which took place this morning, and initially scheduled for Monday, is linked precisely to the imminent possibility of meeting with the mother.

“I have visited Chico many times in the last year. It is strange and exciting to meet him in Italy. And once a very long job has been completed, now we need to think about the other Chico Fortis in the world,” he declared Andrea Di Giuseppe, the only Fratelli d’Italia parliamentarian elected abroad, announcing that he is about to meet Forti in Verona prison. Thanks to his decades-long contacts with the state of Florida, where he lives, and the US administration, Di Giuseppe acted as a facilitator for Forti’s transfer. “All over the world – he explains – there are over two thousand Italians in prison, half of whom are in preventive detention”. The prison that will host Forti is the prison of Montorioreturned to the news when it was destined there Filippo Turetta, the 22-year-old from Padua who confessed to the murder of Giulia Cecchettin. He is found in a cell in Montorio Benno Neumair, the man from Bolzano sentenced by the Court of Appeal to life imprisonment for the double murder and the concealment of his parents’ bodies. But not only. When Forti arrived, the welcome banners were still present in front of the prison Pope francesco, who visited the facility on May 18. The prison is located 6 kilometers from Verona, between the districts of San Michele Extra and Montorio and like all prisons in Italy it suffers from the problem of overcrowding: the Ministry of Justice website explains that it has a capacity of 335 places, but currently houses 592 prisoners.
