Who owns the sea of Bagheria? – BlogSicilia

The beginning of the sea season has always had a special meaning for the people of Bagheria, furthermore this year coincides with a fundamental moment for the future of our community. Associazione Next celebrates it with a red postcard and a question addressed to all citizens: Who owns the sea of Bagheria?

We believe that a few weeks from administrative and European elections it’s fair to ask. It is necessary to talk about what it means for each of us, about protection, accessibility, objectives and programs.

On the back of the postcard we wrote something else. You can read it in Aspra, where we have started distributing it in recent days, and in many activities in Bagheria that are supporting our initiative.

We invite you to talk about your sea, you can do it with us using #ilmaredibagheria or tagging us on Instagram. However, since posting on social media is not enough, we have organized moments to talk about it in person:

The sea of Bagheria for you – Aspra – 18 May, 4.00 pm

On Saturday 18 May we will be in Aspra, from 4pm until sunset, we will ask the people of Bagheria to tell us why the sea is important for them and for Bagheria. We will invite them to talk about their special place, the positive effects that the sea has on our lives. We will be doing video interviews throughout the afternoon, if you want to participate too, come and look for us in Aspra.

The sea of Bagheria from above – Monte Catalfano – 25 May, 4.00 pm

Saturday 25 May, we’ll see you at 4pm at the entrance to the Monte Catalfano Park. The one at the top, on the side of the mountain facing Bagheria. We will leave towards the West for a walk to discover the sea of Bagheria. We will tell you about the coast from above, a privileged position that will allow us to observe the entire length of the Bagheria coastline: from Cala Dell’Osta to the mouth of the Eleuterio river. We will follow fairly comfortable paths and stop at several points. If you want to participate, remember to come with appropriate clothing and water. We ask you to book using this form, participation is limited to a number of 20 people.

Next Association

Associazione Next brings together a group of inhabitants of Bagheria and Santa Flavia, who together carry out initiatives aimed at social innovation and the sustainable development of the two municipalities. Since 2013 we have been committed to computer literacy and environmental protection. From 2013 to 2017 Next was the promoter of Sistema Bagheria, a consortium of 15 associations from Bagheria and Santa Flavia committed to promoting territorial excellence. In recent years we have adopted the coastal area of Cala dell’Osta, known as Tre Piscine. In 2022 we nominated the area for the places of the heart competition promoted by the FAI – Italian Environment Fund, collecting more than 3200 votes from citizens of Bagheria and Santa Flavia and qualifying for the final phase of the competition. Today we are working on initiatives for the protection and use of the coastal area of Bagheria and Santa Flavia. We are convinced, like many, that the sea is a right and a duty.
