The death toll from a road accident that occurred this morning in the industrial area of Gela is two. Domenico Lorefice, 61 years old, president of Sicindustria Caltanissetta, and a 22 year old boy, Kevin Giuseppe Provinzano, lost their lives.
Lorefice was managing director of Lorefice & Ponzio, a company based in Gela which, for over fifty years, has been working in the field of problems related to marine pollution from hydrocarbons, preparing an organized system of services for the anti-pollution and clean-up of port and coastal waters. According to the first rumors, Provinzano, a young worker, was driving a small car, apparently a Fiat “Panda”, in which he was returning home. It seems he had asked the company, a related company, for leave because a family member was unwell. Lorefice returned to the office, aboard a suv Dacia. The impact was frontal. Both died instantly. The deployment of rescuers and vehicles was useless.
The helicopter was taken off from the 118 operating base but there was nothing that could be done for the two unfortunate motorists.
