Smartphones seized from high security inmates in Avellino prison

Further seizures of telephones and electronic equipment used by prisoners in the Avellino prison.

In the room reserved for socializing in the high security department, ten smartphones with their respective battery chargers, a modem router, a scale and an allen wrench were found and seized, probably used to dismantle the furnishings of the cells.

This was announced by Raffaele Troise, of the provincial secretariat of the Uilpa-Penitentiary Police. The seizures occurred during a routine search of the premises frequented by prisoners.

“The importance of the discovery – underlines Troise – depends precisely on the prison circuit in which it was made. Some of these prisoners at the head of criminal gangs continue to conduct illicit trafficking even from inside prison using telephone devices. Our applause – concludes the trade unionist – goes to the current management of the Avellino prison and above all to the officers who, despite the reduced staff, have once again demonstrated great professionalism and self-sacrifice”.
