It’s Saturday 18 May 2024 and today too we’re going to take stock of what the earthquakes more significant than Engv, the national institute of geophysics and volcanology, reported in our country. Let’s start with the one that occurred three kilometers southwest of Pietragalla, in the province of Potenza, an earthquake with a magnitude of 1.9 degrees occurred at 6.37am of today. Also noteworthy is an earthquake today in Puglia, precisely along the Gargano coast, in the province of Foggia. It was a very mild telluric event, with a magnitude of 1.5 degrees on the Richter scale, located last night, precisely at 4.58 am.
The earthquake had geographical coordinates equal to 41.9400 degrees of latitude, 15.3150 of longitude and a depth of 11 kilometers below sea level, as announced by the INGV-Rome Seismic Room. In the area, the municipalities of Lesina, Poggio Imperiale, Chieuti and Serracapriola were identified, all localities in the province of Foggi, but the city with at least 50 thousand inhabitants closest to the earthquake was found to be San Severo, 29 kilometers away, with Foggia furthest behind at 56, then Manfredonia 61, then Cerignola at 90 and finally Benevento at 100.
EARTHQUAKE TODAY IN RIETI, THE DETAILS INGV
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology also communicated one earthquake of magnitude 1.2 degrees on the Richter scale five kilometers east of Accumoli, in the province of Rieti, in the Lazio region. In this case the earthquake was located shortly after midnight yesterday, precisely at 3:00 pm 00 and 35 minutes, and its geographical coordinates were 42.6790 degrees latitude, 13.3040 longitude and a depth of 12 kilometers below sea level.
The municipalities of Amatrice, Arquata del Tronto, Acquasanta Terme, Cittareale and Campotosto have been identified in the area. The city closest to the epicenter instead turned out to be Teramo33 kilometers away, with L’Aquila at 37 kilometers, then Terni at 55, then Foligno at 58 and finally Montesilvano at 72. The earthquake shocks that were recorded today by the INGV and which we have reported on this page, they caused no damage or injuries, we will be ready to report further earthquakes should they occur during the day.
