The 17-year-old Tunisian suspected of killing a 21-year-old compatriot the other night in the Montagnola park in Bagnola was also arrested thanks to the army soldiers involved in Operation Safe Roads. This was underlined by the Bologna police commissioner Antonio Sbordone, together with the director of the Emilia-Romagna Polfer Annarita Santantonio, during the press conference which was also attended by the regional commander of the Army, Francesco Randacio.
Details that will certainly not go unnoticed in nearby Reggio Emilia where even a few weeks ago there was a long discussion – also because we are in the election campaign – of the opposition of the mayor Vecchi (but above all of the prefect Cocciufa, who is responsible for any request) to the presence of the army in the station area, one of the most degraded neighborhoods in the city, unlike what happens in Modena, Parma and, indeed, in Bologna.
“This is the right path, the Army soldiers make a great contribution and this must push us to do even better,” he said in Bologna police headquarters, Sbordone. “Before being soldiers, we are Italian citizens – added Colonel Randacio in the press conference – and we must be active to provide security, even more so when we carry out this type of operation. We are delighted to do our part.”
The boy, who has been in Italy for some years, has a police record for robbery and drug dealing and was tracked down by the Polfer and the army in Piazza delle Medaglie d’Oro, in front of the station. It is suspected that the crime arose from the attempted theft of the victim’s bike, which started a fight.
The victim was found the other evening at the foot of the Pincio steps, in Montagnola, 24 hours after the sexual assault case, which also occurred in the park.
