The lighting of the historical and architectural heritage of Ferrara curated by Hera Luce, a Hera Group company, sets an example at an international level. On Thursday 16 May (World Day of Light) a delegation of experts in the restoration sector – around fifty people including professionals and institutional representatives from Europe, Asia and the United States – took part in the night tour to discover the most important monuments of the city.

The annual event to promote the restoration sector (a project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ICE Agency, in collaboration with Assorestauro) has in fact landed in the city of Este which hosted the International Restoration Exhibition. The event also proved to be an opportunity to show the group of experts from abroad the cutting-edge lighting solutions, designed and created by Hera Luce to enhance the monuments of a UNESCO World Heritage city, in collaboration with the IMartini partners, Neri and Studio I-DEA.

The delegation, accompanied by the Councilor for Public Works Andrea Maggi and representatives of Assorestauro, Hera Luce and partner companies, walked through the historic center of Ferrara at dusk, stopping in the streets where, thanks to innovative plays of light and shadow, the geometries that have characterized the city for centuries resurface: from the iconic via Capo delle Volte to via Ragno, San Romano, Carlo Mayr up to the Estense Castle where participants were able to admire the evocative light effects that enhance the symbolic monument.

“Ferrara is a precious architectural jewel and the lighting solutions adopted allow us to enhance the details and characteristic aspects of the historic buildings and reveal their beauty in every detail.
– intervenes the councilor for Public Works, Andrea Maggi – The wise use of lights completes and enhances the architecture by creating and recreating engaging atmospheres, giving the monuments a new life during the night and further enhancing the charm and suggestion of our city. Not only. In this way we increase our community’s sense of belonging to places, we contribute to people’s safety and, last but not least, we obtain significant energy savings”.

“We are proud that our technological solutions – adds Tiziano Speranza, Engineering and Innovation representative of Hera Luce – have attracted the interest of an important international event like Restoration Week and that experts from various parts of the world have been able to admire the historical heritage of Ferrara, so fascinating in the evening and night hours. For each monument we have studied personalized atmospheres that improve the liveability of the spaces and, at the same time, are able to enhance the valuable architectural elements, always maintaining high attention to energy saving”.

From the energy requalification of systems to the architectural lighting project

In 2020, Hera Luce signed a service contract with the Municipality of Ferrara which includes, in addition to the energy requalification of the public lighting systems and the Ferrara Smart project, also the creation of the city’s monumental lighting. The architectural lighting plan focused on a series of monuments in the historic center, including the Estense Castle, the Palazzo dei Diamanti and the Palazzo Ducale, as well as the city walls. The objective is to enhance them through the external lighting of the facades and important architectural elements. An important project, capable of attracting the attention of international experts, thus bringing the example of Ferrara to the world.
